Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is a double-stranded DNA molecule with a closed circular structure that exists independently of the cell nucleus within mitochondria. The mitochondrial genome is a multi-copy genome, and the quantity (copy number) and quality of mtDNA are closely related to mitochondrial function. Studies have shown that variations in mtDNA copy number cause mitochondrial dysfunction, which in turn leads to disease. This kit uses the Taqman probe qPCR method to specifically amplify the mtDNA and nuclear genomic DNA of the samples. By establishing a standard curve, the copy number of mitochondria can be quantified.
